“Sunday Morning in the Thatch” is an informal, relaxed session of music, recitations, and poetry. Everyone is invited to come along and join in with recitations. The PJ Drummond Cup – in memory of a man who was a great aficionado of William Allingham’s poetry – is presented by his family for the best recitation of the morning. The winner is chosen by a tongue-in-cheek popular vote, using brown envelopes as ballots. Attendees can vote for their favourite recitations by enclosing some paper currency (€5 or more). The collected funds pay for the music and incidentals. The Drummond Cup is a light-hearted competition, and the laissez-faire attitude enhances the fun aspect of the morning.

Past “Sunday Morning in the Thatch” sessions have included readings and street theatre by local drama groups. Sessions are held in the lounge at the rear of the Thatch Pub.
