The Allingham Arts Festival host this year’s Emerson Lecture from the Donegal Historical Society.

One hundred and seventy-five years ago, 19 orphan girls left Ballyshannon Workhouse to travel to Sydney, Australia, under the Earl Grey Scheme. Who were they? How were they chosen? How did their lives turn out?

Renowned local historian, Anthony Begley will reveal all in his own highly informative and entertaining style in this year’s Emerson Lecture, from the Donegal Historical Society.
